JLPT N5 - Grammar ๐ŸŒŸ ใŸใ“ใจใŒใ‚ใ‚‹ ta koto ga aru

Japanese grammar pattern โ€œใ€œใŸใ“ใจใŒใ‚ใ‚‹โ€ (ta koto ga aru) labeled N5 on a blue background, used to express past experience, meaning โ€œhave done something before.โ€

I’m sure many of you reading my blog have experienced this before...
Maybe you’ve watched a Japanese anime or movie, or tried ramen, or a sweet matcha dessert at a Japanese restaurant in your country.

In Japanese, when we talk about something we’ve experienced before, we use ใŸใ“ใจใŒใ‚ใ‚‹ (ta koto ga aru).

It means “to have done something before”, a simple but powerful way to share your experiences and connect with others.

You can use it to say things like, “I’ve eaten sushi,” “I’ve seen Spirited Away,” or “I’ve studied Japanese before.”

Let’s learn how to use ใŸใ“ใจใŒใ‚ใ‚‹ naturally and start talking about your own experiences in Japanese!

Are you ready? Let’s go!

ใŸ (past form only) vs ใŸใ“ใจใŒใ‚ใ‚‹ (ta koto ga aru)
Both use the ใŸ-form, but their meanings are different!

ใŸ (past form) simply describes a specific event in the past.
You use it when you’re talking about when something happened.

ใŸใ“ใจใŒใ‚ใ‚‹, on the other hand, focuses on experience.
It means you have done something at least once before, without saying when.
