JLPT N5 - Grammar ๐ŸŒŸ ใพใ—ใ‚‡ใ† mashou

Japanese grammar pattern โ€œใ€œใพใ—ใ‚‡ใ†โ€ (mashou) labeled N5 on a blue background, used to make suggestions or invitations, meaning โ€œletโ€™sโ€ฆโ€.

Imagine you’re with a friend and you want to say something like:

“Let’s go!”
“Let’s eat!”
“Let’s take a break!”

Or maybe you’re in class and the teacher says:
“Let’s begin.”

These everyday “let’s” moments appear all the time in Japanese. And the expression you need is ใพใ—ใ‚‡ใ† (mashou).

If you follow me on social media, you’ve probably heard me say it in my videos too. Things like “Let’s practice together!” or “Let’s try it!”
I use ใพใ—ใ‚‡ใ† constantly because it’s friendly, warm, and perfect for inviting everyone to learn together.

ใพใ—ใ‚‡ใ† is simple, polite, and one of the first real “conversation tools” Japanese learners pick up. It helps you make suggestions, invite someone, propose group actions, or respond positively when someone invites you.

So… are you ready?
Let’s take a closer look at how ใพใ—ใ‚‡ใ† works, and start using it naturally in your Japanese conversations!

ใพใ›ใ‚“ใ‹ (masen ka) vs ใพใ—ใ‚‡ใ† (mashou)
Both expressions are used to invite someone to do something together, but their nuance and level of softness are different.

ใพใ›ใ‚“ใ‹ (masen ka)
ใพใ›ใ‚“ใ‹ is gentle and polite. This is the softer invitation, like saying “Would you like to…?”
It gives the listener space to decline and sounds considerate and polite.

ใพใ—ใ‚‡ใ† (mashou)
ใพใ—ใ‚‡ใ† is more proactive and enthusiastic. This feels like “Let’s do it!”. Friendly, positive, and often used when you’re ready to move forward.
