Here we go again with another Japanese particle!
This time it’s all about から (kara). It’s got multiple super handy meanings, and it shows up everywhere in daily conversation.

Sometimes から marks the starting point of time or place, like “from” or “since.”
Other times, it connects a reason or cause, like “because” or “since.”

Once you master these two uses, you’ll realize you’ve been hearing から all the time, in conversations, books, anime, and even in your own sentences!

So, let’s explore together!

ので (node)
Also means “because, since,” but it’s softer and more polite than から.

雨が降っているので、行きません。
あめ が ふっている ので いきません。
ame ga futte iru node, ikimasen.
Since it’s raining, I won’t go.

💡 Tip:
Use から in everyday, casual explanations.
Use ので when you want to sound more polite, formal, or softer.

アメリカから日本へ行きます。
あめりか から にほん へ いきます。
amerika kara nihon e ikimasu.
I’m going from America to Japan.

来週から、広島に出張です。
らいしゅう から、ひろしま に しゅっちょう です。
raishuu kara, hiroshima ni shucchou desu.
From next week, I’ll be on a business trip to Hiroshima.

今日のレッスンは、テキストの26ページからはじめます。
きょう の れっすん は、てきすと の にじゅうろく ぺーじ から はじめます。
kyou no ressun ha, tekisuto no nijuu-roku peeji kara hajimemasu.
Today’s lesson will start from page 26 of the textbook.

雪がふっているから、足元に気をつけてね。
ゆき が ふっている から、あしもと に きをつけて ね。
yuki ga futteiru kara, ashimoto ni ki wo tsukete ne.
Since it’s snowing, be careful of your footing.

学生だから、割引があります。
がくせい だ から、わりびき が あります。
gakusei da kara, waribiki ga arimasu.
Because I’m a student, there’s a discount.

この映画、面白いから、みて！
この えいが、 おもしろい から、みて！
kono eiga, omoshiroi kara, mite!

週末はひまだから、引っ越しを手伝いますよ！
しゅうまつ は ひま だ から、ひっこし を てつだいます よ！
shuumatsu ha hima da kara, hikkoshi wo tetsudaimasu yo!
