JLPT N4 - Grammar ๐ŸŒŸ ใชใ‚‰ nara

Japanese grammar point ใชใ‚‰ with romaji nara and JLPT grammar level label

If you asked me,
“I want to visit Japan, but where do you recommend?”

I’d probably answer something like this:

If it’s your first trip to Japan, then Tokyo or Osaka area is the easiest to explore.”

If it’s your second time or more, then I’d love for you to experience the snowy landscapes of northern areas in winter, or the dynamic nature of Shikoku: the sea, the mountains, and the breathtaking rivers.”

In Japanese, this useful pattern: “if it’s ~, then… / as for ~…” is expressed with ใชใ‚‰ (nara).

It’s a simple word, but it opens the door to giving advice, making suggestions, and sounding extra natural in conversations.

So… shall we dive in and explore how ใชใ‚‰ works?

ใŸใ‚‰ (tara)

means “if / when” more general and often used for one-time conditions.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip:

Unlike ใ‚‚ใ—ใ€œใŸใ‚‰ or ใฐ, ใชใ‚‰ often responds to what the other person said.
It feels like: “As for that… then this.”
