JLPT N4 - Grammar ๐ŸŒŸ ใ“ใจ koto

Japanese grammar word โ€œใ“ใจโ€ (koto) labeled N4 on a teal background, representing an intermediate-level structure used to nominalize verbs or refer to abstract concepts or experiences.

Have you ever wanted to take an action word, a verb, and turn it into a thing so you can talk about it?
In English, we do this all the time with -ing. This process is called a verb nominalizer, it changes a verb into a noun-like form.

Think about it like…

cook → cooking → “My hobby is cooking.”
study → studying → “Studying Japanese is fun.”
meet → meeting → “I remember meeting her.”

In each case, an action (cook, study, meet) becomes a noun-like idea that you can talk about.

In Japanese, that’s exactly what ใ“ใจ (koto) does!
Once you master this, your vocabulary will grow a lot, and communication will become much more fun.

Shall we check it out?

ใฎ (no) : casual nominalizer
Like ใ“ใจ, ใฎ can also turn verbs into nouns, but it’s softer and more casual.
You’ll often hear it in spoken Japanese.
