In Japanese, when you want to describe something that almost happened (but thankfully didn't!), we use the magic phrase ใจใ“ใ‚ใ ใฃใŸ (tokoro datta).

It’s like saying "I was just about to..." or "I was on the verge of..." It’s a super expressive N2 grammar point that helps you share those dramatic "near-miss" stories with your friends.

This is a very important distinction! The meaning changes completely depending on the form of the verb.

This means you just finished doing something. The action is 100% complete.
